Kumbh Mela

Posted by Ralph Speas on

The Kumbh Mela is the largest Hindu pilgrimage. Every 3 years it rotates between 4 different locations in India. These places are Haridwar, Nasik, Allahabad and Ujjain. Each of these cities has a holy river running through it. The devotees come and take a ritual bath for cleansing.

January 14 to February 25 of 2013 the Kumbh Mela is taking place in Allahabad. This is thought to be the largest gathering in the world. They are expecting over 100 Million participants to come and seek cleansing by dipping into the holy river.

As you travel to these rivers one of the first things you will notice is the filth that has piled up and polluted the waters. One of the pilgrims in the article below mentions how terrible it is that these people are polluting the holy waters. As a believer in Jesus I am grateful that I cannot corrupt God. The incorruptible God took a corrupted man in myself and made me clean! The God who is not dirty is the God who can truly make man clean.

Pray that Jesus will show the masses seeking to be washed the true cleansing power that comes only through His blood.

Pray that believers in and around Allahabad would be able to reach out and share the Gospel with the pilgrims and that  many would come to Christ!
